Tanya,
Thanks for writing the article for Climbing, it definately made me think about things I don't always think about. Being a straight, white, american I don't always realize how crappy people can be towards others for looking or being different. One thing that really stood out was the part were, I hope I don't slaughter this, but where you say that you want people to think about it (GBLT issues), and to know that people are going to back you up when some dumb-ass tries to start shit with you. Well I would think only a douche bag wouldn't back up a friend. Unless a friend of mine is doing something stupid, like spitting in another's beer let's say, I would definately be there to back them up. I think when most climber's say that they don't think about homosexual issues what they really mean is that they don't judge people due to sexual/lifestyle preferences, they try to look at there character. If you're ever in Utah you can definately look me up for a climbing partner, there are a lot of dumb rednecks here, but most won't bother someone because they are different, they just talk behind your back.

Tanya! Thanks for putting your music out there - I love listening on the website, especially "go on, be kind" and "saving graces." Come to the midwest again soon!

July 12, 2007

and j.b.: I read Tanya's article--it is SO not about sex! It is about identity and community--from your comment, I expected to read an article about torrid sex on the rocks, but there was no such thing--only a frank and open essay about being gay and being a rock climber, equivalent to let's say an essay about ethnic identity as it relates to a sport.

Since when does an essay about sexual identity equal porno-mag sex, and since when does a well written article like that deserve name calling like "poon licker?"

I'll be looking on the shelves of the bookstore for that article!

Hi, Tanya,
I literally just finished reading your article in Climbing and I wanted to thank you on such a well written piece.
My sister is gay and my thoughts went out to her as I was reading your piece. Especially because she was the one who signed us up for our first Intro to Rockclimbing course many years ago.
Oh, and I didn't even know you were a musician. I live in Portland too and I'm sure I'll catch one of your shows soon.

Hi Tanya,
I just read your article in Climbing magazine and really enjoyed it. I'm also gay and hadn't thought about how climbing and sexuality relate. I found it really interesting- thanks :)

Hi Tanya,

I just wanted to congratulate you on your bold, wonderful article in the most recent issue of 'Climbing'. Way to go!
I feel like the world of climbing as I know it is often rather homophobic (comments at the crag, route names, etc) and I really commend you for putting the issue on the table. Thanks from another Minnesotan!

Hi...I like the album quite a bit. You did a good job last night at the Matrix, despite what could've been a discouraging night. Too bad more people didn't get the chance to hear you there. Great voice...as I mentioned. Hope the show at Plenty's had more in attendance? Oh well...I'll keep listening to both your's and Jennifer's CDs. Thanks again. I also enjoyed the pictures in the insert. Especially that one inside the cover. Looks like your older brother is (or at least was) a fav of yours. Nice work.

I'm totally impressed with this site and all that you've accomplished. From the cold, dark back room of the Rexall Rose in '95 to this! You're one talented woman and I wish you fantastic success! See you soon...

Hey Cousin!! Congrats on the Masters!! What an accomplishment!! Also, great web-site and congrats on the CD! I emailed Rick your site and he checked it out also! You are very talented!! It will be nice to catch up with you this summer. Oh, by the way, we adopted a baby in April. A baby girl, she's African American and was born in NC on March 25th. She's a sweetheart and we love her so much! The boys are thrilled to finally have a sister. Well, you take care. See you in a few months.

Tanya:
Good luck with your release party. You've got so much talent, it's coming out of your ears (look at your pictures again; you'll see it!).
It's been swell being a classmate, WC-mate with you, and although we haven't crossed paths much, I wish you all the best with you and your music.
Cheers,

Tanya, OMG OMG OMG. This page is so tight. It was so hella tight to work with you on your album. Okay I will be normal again...
Seriously though, I had a great time working on your project and am sad that we still aren't working on it now. See that's why I took so long to do the mixes because I new I would never see you again after they were done... :( Soon though, we are gonna make the dollars and sip Mai Tais in hawaii... I promise.

Tanya, what a treat to 'discover' your site. Found it after sending you a pm on rc.com.

Your music is fantastic. Like while listening to Ani, you got my foot tappin' and head bobbin'. Like listening to Dar who can bring you to Iowa with her cool melodies, your music brings the listener to cool, comfortable places. Great work and I look forward to getting a copy.

Cheers,

Rich
