Tanya Pluth: The Tunes

A little brighter

(Tanya Pluth)
2006-04
Umm. . .
I was walking so fast
Like I was running
Like there was something to run from
And in truth there was so much I was feeling
I was just about undone

I didn’t ask for a ride
I didn’t want to be rescued, not this time
I wanted to find my own way home
And watch the sun set on the street signs

I gathered up every little thing you gave me
And I put it someplace beautiful
Maybe you don’t know
But I hope you will
Cause it’s all there still

And then the world
Looked a little brighter
The way the sun touched the scattered leaves
The way my feet pounded the pavement
Reminding me I had a better place to be

In the distance, the echo of hours
I got a glimpse of myself there
The latest in a long line of generations
Trying to step beyond despair

So I gave it all away
Just like the world asked me to
And I held my head and prayed
That all the things I thought and felt
Were true.
